Flooding tips & advice

Being prepared for a flood is always best when you live in close proximity to a stream or river. To raise awareness of flooding the Environment Agency, and the council have great web sites that give you advice such as, is my home at risk, preparing for a flood, understanding flood warnings, guidance for riverside properties, making a flood plan and how to register to receive flood warnings direct to your mobile phone.

The Environment Agency are working to reduce the risk of flooding from the sea, rivers and streams through the management of land, river systems, flood and coastal defences. The Environment Agency also work to reduce the damage that floods can cause through land planning, flood warnings and emergency responses.

Slough Borough Council is the relevant operating authority for the 11.7 Km of ordinary watercourses, these are all of the watercourses in the Council’s area except for those designated as main rivers which become the responsibility of the Environment Agency.

The main rivers are:
• Wraysbury River, west of the M25 at Poyle
• Datchet Common Brook from outfall in Upton Court Park
• County Ditch from M25 to confluence with the Colne Brook
• Roundmoor Ditch, south of the Sewage Works.
• Chalvey Ditch, downstream of Telford Drive
• Colne Brook from M4/M25 junction downstream
• Tanhouse Channel linking the Colne Brook with the County Ditch
• Poyle Channel from M25 to confluence with the Colne Brook
